The light after rain

A wet street is a different landscape. Stone reflects the sky, brick darkens and small pools turn a familiar pavement into a sequence of mirrors. The best place to begin looking is often the edge of the scene, where water gathers beside a wall or below a tree.

Try returning to the same corner in three kinds of weather. Make a short note about the colour of the ground, the direction of shadows and which surfaces catch the light. A phone photograph can help, but a written observation often preserves a detail that a wide picture loses.

Leave room in the notebook for uncertainty. A colour remembered at home may differ from the one you actually saw. That difference is part of learning to look, not a mistake to hide.
